The journey from Mexico to Maine, as seen from space

The crew of Expedition 42 — which was doing research aboard the International Space Station this winter — took this amazing video of a night-time view of the U.S. from space.

It follows the ISS’s orbital path from Mexico City to New England at night — and you can even see what looks like the Northern Lights in the horizon when you get to Maine.

We all know that there are fewer cities in this state than, say, Pennsylvania or Texas, but that really hits you when you see how much less light pollution there is once you get to Maine.
